Angels: A Celestial Visitation

The Pope John Paul II Cultural Center in Washington, D.C. announces a new exhibit  “Angels: A Celestial Visitation” opening on June 1, 2010.  The exhibit features the angel paintings of Patricia Montague Friend, based on models from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, but executed in her personal vision and exploring the variation of angelic forms in contemporary style.  Using acrylics, oils, and paper wetted and formed into shapes, Patricia Friend creates tapestry like paintings, rich in technique and texture through which the angels reveal themselves. Rubbing and glazing add transparency and light patterns to give the paintings their sense of beauty, mystery, and spirituality.  The artist’s wish for the viewer is to discover in the paintings “a beauty beyond appearance, to ponder and to bring peace.”
The exhibit will run through July 31, 2010.
