More than 55 nations visited by John Paul II during his papacy will be represented at the black-tie Legacy Dinner at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC.

"We are exceptionally grateful to Her Majesty Queen Rania for her benevolence as Patron in this significant international tribute to Pope John Paul II," said Monsignor William A. Kerr, executive director of the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center.

His Majesty King Abdullah Al-Hussein and Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah (picturd on left) met with Pope John Paul II in March 2000 when he visited Jordan on his landmark Jubilee Year trip to the Holy Land. Most recently, on September 12, 2005, Their Majesties had an audience with Pope Benedict XVI, a meeting aimed at nurturing respectful dialogue between the Christian and Muslim faiths.

Cardinal Adam Maida, president of the Pope John Paul II Cultural Foundation and archbishop of Detroit, is the event host. His Excellency the Ambassador of France and Mrs. Jean-David Levitte chair The Diplomatic Committee; Governor and Mrs. Marc Racicot chair The Legacy Dinner Committee for the event that is sponsored by the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center.

Major donations to The Legacy Fund will be announced during the event. Proceeds from The Legacy Dinner will benefit The Legacy Fund, supporting interreligious inquiry, intercultural dialogue and educational opportunities that promote human rights, justice and peace. Her Majesty Queen Rania is former chair of the Board of Governors of the Pacem (Peace) scholarships, which has benefited 400 undergraduate students from developing nations around the world. The Legacy Fund of the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center will support the scholarship program.
